Curly Hairstyles With Bangs

Curly bangs are the latest breakout accessory to hit this season. They add a quick and dramatic change to your look. But rocking the right style can be tricky, even if you’re a naturally curly-headed gal. We asked Ricky Pennisi, a curly hair guru and founder of RI CI products, for tips on achieving the perfect curly bang style according to the shape of your face. For Square Faces or Large ForeheadsAsk for heavy bangs since they soften the face and create a dramatic look that focuses on showcasing the eyes. Ask your stylist to make the hair on the forehead more feathery and longer on the sides near the temples. The bangs should hit just below your eyebrows, but shouldn’t touch your eye.For Heart Faces or Smaller ForeheadsSideswept curly bangs are a great way to balance your face. They create the illusion that your forehead is a bit longer. Plus, the slightly sexy style is easy to do. It’s as simple as parting your hair on the side of your choosing. For Round FacesThe right bang cut can actually give the illusion of elongating your face. The curly bangs should be graphic, thick and hit just above the eyebrows. For Oval FacesHave some fun! Nearly any type of fringe that hits right below the brow bone accentuates the face and softens your features. Now that you know the right curly bang style for your face shape, here are some tips from Butterfly Studio Salon’s expert stylist Amanda Colihan on how to style your new fringe.Embrace What Mother Nature Gave YouWhile your hair is still wet, mix your favorite styling product cocktail and use it to twist your bangs into a bunch of little curly sections. After your curls air-dry, shake them out or separate them. Pull on a few sections to play with different levels of bounce and stretch.Redefine Your CurlsWith your fingers and your blowdryer on low, using only your fingers, use some tension while drying and twisting your hair at the same time. This is a way of smoothing out your hair a bit while still using its natural texture to get the end result.Switch It UpOne of the great things about curls and texture is their holding power. Section curly bangs back and pin them down, then using your fingers, pull on a few different spots for wanted height and texture. Another easy option: Braid them into a longer section of hair and pin the whole thing up to make a cute side braid that will perfectly pair with any up or down ‘do.With the right cut and styling know-how, you can just have fun and experiment with different looks. Curly Hairstyles With Bangs

Curly hair with bangs looks extremely cute and feminine. Many women with natural curls still have a love-hate relationship with their hair, mainly due to the belief that it’s rather difficult to style because of its texture. There is one widespread myth about curly hair that has been etched in women’s minds: women with curly hair shouldn’t wear bangs. This is not true at all! In fact, adding bangs actually softens up your look and makes your hairstyle pretty hot, too!

Adding bangs to a naturally curly hairstyle is sometimes a conundrum: do you leave them curly or do you straighten them? I’d say go with what works for you. The tighter the curls, the longer you should leave the bangs. This way they can stay in their natural texture. The looser your curls, the more bangs you can create and style them either curly or straight.

This time around, they should be natural-looking and soft to the touch, as best exhibited by Jenny Slate. Make sure you ask your stylist for a dry cut and for bangs that will hit just above your lashes. To style, use a light cream or gel (hairstylist Jennifer Yepez recommends Kérastase Curl Fever) on damp hair to control frizz before using a diffuser to dry bangs in place. Finish with Ouai Wave Spray or Kérastase Spray à Porter for perfect ringlets that will stay in place all night (or, say, throughout an elaborate impromptu dance number).facebook dialogPinterestJeffrey Mayer/Getty ImagesPoufy, Middle-Part BangsTracee Ellis Ross makes wild, poufy bangs look red-carpet ready. To re-create this look, separate damp bangs into one-inch sections and smooth on a light styling product like Kérastase Nectar Thermique while twisting hair toward your face from root to end. Gently pull hair apart with your fingers and spritz on texturizing spray (Yepez recommends one of Oribe's or Ouai's texturizing sprays). Let it air-dry in place and pull the rest of your hair into a low ponytail.

Part hair into three or four haphazard sections from the crown backward, securing each with a small elastic. Smooth hair down with pomade or mousse (we like R+Co Chiffon Styling Mousse) before twisting each section into a loose bun. Secure with bobby pins. You can also pull some pieces of the bun loose after pinning for a RiRi-esque deconstructed look.facebook dialogPinterest@amandlastenberg/InstagramStraight Bangs, Curly HairCaution: This look could veer into prom territory if not handled correctly. Yepez recommends starting with damp hair, sectioning off bangs before styling your curls as you usually would. Then, coat bangs with a smoothing cream like Herbal Essences Touchably Smooth Anti-Frizz Crème and blow-dry them (if you have stubborn curls like mine, you might need to follow up with a flat iron and an oil to get perfect smoothness). Anytime you think you might want to reach for the hairspray, don't.

If we had a dollar for every time we heard someone say, “I look horrible with curly hair bangs,” then we’d have quite the savings account. No doubt, styling bangs can be a bit difficult. And when your hair is naturally curly, that may make getting your fringe to do exactly what you’d like even more frustrating.

Glasses can present a challenge for curly hairstyles with bangs. The solution is to wear side bangs that fall an inch or so above the brows so they complement, not compete with, the frames. Unbroken length at the sides and back prevents cowlicks.

Choppy Baby BangsElla Eyre proves that you can have both curly hair and baby bangs without looking like someone who's just been electrocuted. Just make sure you ask for the right cut (you'll want to show this look to your stylist so they know exactly what you want. We repeat: Do not make your stylist guess), and remember to keep the bangs flat and piecey. “The key to this style is to use a curling iron to give it the same movement to match the rest of your hair,” Yepez says. Be sure to use a heat protectant like Paul Mitchell Hot Off the Press each time.

If you want to change things up a bit, you can style your curly hair with light eyebrow-skimming bangs like Jennie Garth did. Gather your hair into a half-up, half-down hairstyle. Let your curls cascade freely on your shoulders. Meanwhile, you can straighten your bangs and let them fall right above your eyes.
