The method you use to apply hair gel will vary depending on the style you’re looking to achieve, but a few tips hold true regardless of your hair type. For one, you should try make sure that the gel only gets on your hair (instead of coating your scalp) in order to reduce itching and flaking. Gel tends to form a stronger hold when applied to damp hair rather than hair that is soaking wet, so you may want to towel dry hair before application. Some people also choose to apply gel and then blow dry, which may help control frizz and flyaways without yielding stiff results. Using gel along with tools like a curling iron or flat iron will also help you sculpt different looks, so don’t be afraid to experiment.

Even though it might seem like a fairly basic styling product, you’ll actually find that there are several different types of hair gel to choose between. The main variation between these products is how strong they are–which relates directly to the types of hairstyles they are intended to help you shape. Some brands of gel rate their products on a scale from 1 to 10, with higher numbers representing a stronger hold. Other brands simply use terminology like light, medium, or strong hold. You’ll also find variations between gel marketed for women and those for men. Men who choose gel over other styling products typically want their hair to be spiky or slicked back and want the result to be stiff. Women with longer hair, on the other hand, tend to use lighter gels to control hair (often yielding better results than hairsprays) while avoiding the stiff look.

I'm in love with this gel. I've been natural for quite some, and tried several gels to try to slick my hair down & keep it like that when I'm active. None of them really worked for me, I had to use like several products to do the job. So I read some reviews, and thought I'd try this. It works like a charm. It does exactly what I need it to do, hold my hair down/in order/no fly-aways/ nothing out of place while I'm active at the gym or such, it doesn't get sweated out or anything. It provides the perfect hole for anytime, no flaking/residue or anything as well. & It washes out well when it's time to wash my hair. Also, this gel last for days in my hair, it really does without me having to retouch the gel. I will always buy this product, it's excellent!

I have curly hair, and was looking for a light gel that wasn't too crunchy — and it definitely delivered on that count. It smells amazing, as all sevi products do! Unfortunately, I found it quite drying, and it wasn't particularly good at defining curls or taming frizz. I'll finish the bottle (with a solid dose of Argan Babassu hair lotion underneath — which is amazing and makes it feel less drying), but won't purchase again.

I have very long thick hair with a bit of natural wave. This gel is really multipurpose – it tames fly-aways, defines my waves, helps hold & smooth curls when I style, combats general frizz & seems to nourish my hair. I really appreciate being able to use one product for so many things. It is never sticky or crunchy & adds a healthy subtle shine. It also smells INCREDIBLE – I get so many compliments on how i smell when I use this. It's unique – sort of a clean sweet citrus herbal. I would absolutely wear it as a perfume if i could! I love this blend of essential oils.

This styling gel is a huge change from my old crunchy curl maker purchased at the local drugstore. It gives me a fresher, softer look that is so much more current. And no flaking once it's dry! Bonus points: the price is comparable to the old stuff. So many other natural hair/skincare brands charge exorbitant prices for product that is not nearly as well-curated or so lovingly prepared. AND I can pronounce every one of the ingredients. Sevi, another keeper!

I just tried this product and am really appreciating it for the dry, winter months. It is extremely light, has no odor, provides hold, some curl enhancement with zero crunch. It leaves my hair very soft. Works very well over the serum and other leave in's.
